Meet the partners through CHANGE project: EASM

December 2023

In the realm of sports management, driving progress and innovation is paramount. The European Association for Sport Management (EASM) is a frontrunner in this field, taking the lead in advancing sports management in Europe. With a clear vision and strategic priorities, EASM has carved a niche for itself in this dynamic landscape.

What’s EASM and its core objectives?

The European Association for Sport Management, or EASM, is at the forefront of sports management in Europe. Our vision is to propel the development of sports management across the continent. We’ve distilled this vision into four strategic priorities, including sustainability, teaching, research, and partnerships and advocacy.

Who are the key stakeholders and members of EASM, and what are their roles?

EASM operates through a dynamic membership structure, comprising student, individual, and institutional members. Student members enjoy benefits like scholarships, summer schools, and mentorship programs. Individual members, typically emerging researchers, access valuable resources. Institutional members are larger schools and esteemed sports management programs that recognize the value of EASM’s network.

What services does EASM provide to promote sports management and research?

Our hallmark event is the EASM scientific conference, a gathering that has thrived for over three decades. However, we maintain year-round visibility. We provide free access to the European Sport Management Quarterly, a leading scientific journal. We offer initiatives such as scholarships, student seminars, mentorship programs, and resources like an upcoming webinar series. We also help institutions advertise job opportunities to our network.

Tell us about the diversity and structure of EASM’s board. Why is this diversity significant?

EASM places a strong emphasis on diversity, including gender, age, and nationality quotas. Our board is composed of 11 members, including a president, a vice president, and a secretary-general, all elected by our members. This diverse board represents Europe comprehensively in sports management.

What is EASM’s involvement in the CHANGE Project, and what contributions have been made so far?

EASM plays a key role in Work Package Five of the CHANGE Project. Our significant contribution has been hosting a Change workshop at our conference in Belfast, fostering collaboration between students, practitioners, and researchers. We’ve invited experts to share insights on readiness for change, and we’re now moving towards a solution-oriented approach.

What is EASM’s vision for the legacy of the CHANGE Project?

EASM’s vision extends beyond the project’s completion. We aim to keep the project alive through hosting it on our website. This way, we can revisit it periodically and ensure that its accomplishments, toolkits, and resources remain accessible and beneficial.

EASM stands as a beacon for the advancement of sports management in Europe. Their multifaceted approach, bridging teaching, research, and sustainability, is vital for nurturing the next generation of sports management experts. Through their engagement in the CHANGE project, EASM is facilitating meaningful change and leaving a lasting legacy for the sports management community.
