Conference on Research as a Foundation for Sports Policy: Challenges and Prospects

As part of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU, a conference on sports policy research was held in Warsaw on 10–11 March. The two-day expert event explored how data can shape effective sports policies. Speakers, including the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, emphasized the need for standardized data collection and raised concerns about declining physical activity levels across Europe.

Discussions focused on revising the Health-Enhancing Physical Activity (HEPA) indicators to incorporate mental health and parental influence. Best practices, such as the Get Finland Moving programme, were highlighted as successful examples. Additionally, experts underscored the need for more research on youth perspectives and standardized measurements to support evidence-based policymaking.
