CULT Committee votes to support increased funding for sport

On 19 March, the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) voted in favour of the amendments updating the draft opinion on Revamped Long-Term Budget for the Union in a Changing World. Among the provisions included in the draft opinion, two specifically address sport, both calling for increased EU budget funding to further support European sports projects.

ENGSO takes note of the references to the Erasmus+ Programme in the context of the post-2027 MFF, as well as the CULT Committee’s acknowledgment of sport’s role in reducing inequalities, fostering social cohesion, contributing to the economy, and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, the committee’s efforts to ensure adequate opportunities for individuals with physical or mental disabilities are noteworthy.

The political recognition of the need to increase EU funding for sport-related causes is significant, as it may lead to concrete actions in the next Multiannual Financial Framework cycle.
