The future of the EU policy: informal sport attaches meeting
On April 8 and 9, the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU hosted an informal meeting of sports attachés in Zakopane. The focus was on shaping the future of EU sports policy through the creation of a new long-term strategic framework. The meeting was attended by Theo Neyenhuis, Chair of the ENGSO EU Advisory Committee (EU AC), who participated in various discussions on the future of EU sports policy and the role of sport within education systems.
ENGSO emphasized the importance of sport within school curricula for several reasons, including enhanced academic performance, improved physical and mental health, and the development of soft skills. Additionally, the Chair of the EU AC outlined ENGSO’s vision for the future of EU sports policy—transitioning from a work-plan-based system to an EU Strategy on Sport and a Physically Active Lifestyle, securing and protecting the European Sport Model, and establishing a structured EU sports dialogue.
In a dedicated session, participants also explored the link between education and sport, particularly in light of the upcoming finalization of the Council’s conclusions on an integrated approach to sport and physical activity within the educational context.
