Post-2025 EU Gender Equality Strategy
As the EU Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025 comes to an end, the European Parliament’s Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) discusses the process for developing its successor.
On May 20th, 2025, the FEMM debated over 700 amendments to the draft report on the Gender Equality Strategy 2025, which revealed divisions on topics such as abortion rights, the definition of gender, and LGBTQI+ inclusion. The report is expected to be finalised ahead of the Commission’s post-2025 European Gender Equality Strategy, with the aim of shaping the forthcoming proposal.
The draft report states that “The new Strategy will come in a time when the anti-gender and anti-democratic movements are on the raise and as such, the text, which will be put forward by the Commission, must reflect a clear institutional dedication and concrete commitments to protecting and further developing the framework for gender equality and thus safeguarding our Democracy.”
In the meantime, ENGSO EWS will work on a comprehensive contribution to the call for evidence launched by the European Commission to receive feedback on the ending EU Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025.
