Revision of EU Directive on Combating Child Sexual Abuse
On 13 May, the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) published its draft report on the Directive. The draft report specifically highlights sport, urging Member States to ensure that all professionals and volunteers who work closely with children—including those in child protection, education, and sports—are informed and trained to recognize child sexual abuse.
It is recalled that the EU Directive on Combatting Child Sexual Abuse is currently undergoing a revision procedure. Among the rationale for revising the Directive, the European Parliament cites the constant increase in related crimes, exacerbated by the pandemic and the use of modern technologies, underscoring the need for harmonised national legislation and international cooperation to improve prevention, protect victims, and prosecute perpetrators.
