Draft report on the EU strategy for the rights of persons with disabilities post - 2024

The Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) of the European Parliament has put forward 335 proposed changes to its draft own-initiative report on the EU’s post-2024 strategy for the rights of persons with disabilities. A number of these amendments underscore the importance of sport in enhancing the physical, mental, and social well-being of individuals with disabilities. They advocate for inclusive participation across all levels of sport – from grassroots activities to high-performance competition – and highlight sport’s role in fostering health, social cohesion, and equal opportunities.

The amendments call on the European Commission and Member States to actively promote adapted sports by ensuring inclusive facilities, qualified personnel, and accessible pathways to both recreational and professional sporting environments.
