Talks on the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) are advancing after Commissioner for Justice Michael McGrath unveiled a second package of proposals. Building on the initial package presented in July, the new measures outline key funding opportunities with Erasmus+ confirmed as a core priority. The sectoral programmes highlight additional funding streams, including the Single Market and Customs Programme—focused on anti-fraud, customs, and consumer protection—and an expanded Justice Programme. The latter will see a significant budget increase to reinforce the rule of law, enhance judicial cooperation, and improve digital access to services, while working in complement with Erasmus+ and the European Social Fund to promote inclusion.

In discussions with the European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL), Executive Vice-President Roxana Mînzatu reaffirmed the EU’s focus on Erasmus+, transparency, and sound governance to ensure effective use of funds. With proposals now on the table, negotiations between the Council and the European Parliament will determine the next steps.
