EU disability rights strategy
During its 26–27 November session, the European Parliament reviewed the future outlook of the EU’s disability rights agenda beyond 2024. A mid-term review of the 2021–2030 framework was presented, urging a shift in methodology and the introduction of more precise, quantifiable goals across areas such as employment, education, healthcare, transport, digital access, housing, culture, and sport. ENGSO and its EWS experts on disability had participated in the open consultation in preparation of the mid-term report.
The European Commission noted several advances, including the rollout of the European Disability Card, the Disability Employment Package, the Accessible EU initiative, and the Disability Platform. However, it also conceded that many obstacles persist, especially in relation to sports participation.
