Gender Equality Week: CULT Committee highlights sport’s role in equality
During the 2025 Gender Equality Week (3-9 November), the CULT Committee held a cross-institutional debate on gender gaps in education and employment. The Commission announced a new Education and Training Monitor to track inequalities, alongside a skills observatory to identify future competence needs. It also stressed that achieving equal pay in sport remains a key EU priority.
The Committee of the Regions underlined the need to boost opportunities for Europe’s unemployed youth and the role of regions in creating inclusive pathways. Another speaker drew attention to women’s persistent underrepresentation in sport—both on the field and in leadership—and called for fairer selection processes and greater recognition of women’s contributions.
