European Disability Rights Week

As part of the European Parliament’s Third Disability Rights Week, the Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) held a discussion on 2 December exploring how sport can drive empowerment and inclusion. The session underscored the responsibility of European institutions to break down barriers and create equal opportunities for people with disabilities. Opening remarks highlighted the importance of building an inclusive society where participation in sport is accessible to everyone.

The European Commission outlined how EU funding supports these goals, particularly through the Erasmus+ programme, which continues to back cross-border initiatives focused on inclusion and diversity in sport. Examples such as the ParaManager project showed how targeted training and practical tools can help organisations adapt their structures and activities. Committee members concluded by calling for sustained investment in accessible infrastructure, specialised coaching and inclusive programmes to ensure sport remains open to all.
