BUDG Committee adopts draft resolution on 2026 budget

The European Parliament’s Committee on Budgets (BUDG) has adopted its draft resolution for the 2026 EU budget, introducing several notable amendments. Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) supported increased funding for mobility opportunities for sport staff under Erasmus+ Key Action 1 and endorsed the inclusion of the Preparatory Action “Sport Supports – emergency sport actions for youth.” In parallel, the latest amendment letter to the draft budget, presented this week, proposes a reduction of €1.4 billion in payments, impacting the Regional Development Fund (€1.3 billion) and the European Social Fund+ (€100 million).

Although this adjustment is less severe than the initially anticipated €4 billion cut, MEPs cautioned that vital programmes such as Erasmus+ could still experience financial strain. The draft resolution is scheduled for debate and vote during the Parliament’s plenary session on 22 October, ahead of the first conciliation meeting with the Council on 4 November.
