ENGSO Youth brings youth voices to the EU Youth Policy Dialogue with Commissioner Glenn Micallef

On 26 May 2026, ENGSO Youth participated in the EU Youth Policy Dialogue on the future of the European Sport Model, organised by the European Commission and hosted in Brussels. The event formed part of the European Commission’s consultation process for the upcoming Communication on “A Strategic Vision for Sport in Europe: Reinforcing the European Sport Model”, expected at the end of 2026. The dialogue aimed to gather young people’s perspectives on the challenges facing sport today and explore how EU policies can better support inclusive, democratic and sustainable sport systems.

Represented by Vice-Chair Luca Wernet and Young Delegates Michal Čmelík and Gunther Mur Hartmann, ENGSO Youth brought forward young people’s perspectives on the future of sport governance, highlighting the need for meaningful youth participation in decision-making processes. During the dialogue with Commissioner Glenn Micallef, the discussion focused on key issues, including governance, volunteering, physical inactivity, athlete well-being, and inclusion. ENGSO Youth also presented recommendations to strengthen youth representation in sport governance, increase support for grassroots sport through Erasmus+, and ensure that young people are recognised not only as participants and volunteers but also as partners, leaders, and co-decision-makers in shaping the future of European sport.
