ENGSO Youth Responded to the Post-2027 EU Youth Strategy Consultation

The 2019–2027 EU Youth Strategy is approaching its conclusion, providing an opportunity to shape EU priorities for young people beyond 2027. The Strategy promotes young people’s social and civic participation and aims to ensure policies better reflect their needs. As part of developing the next Strategy, the European Commission launched a public consultation to gather views from stakeholders across Europe.

ENGSO Youth submitted a response, highlighting the important role of grassroots sport in supporting youth participation, health and well-being, social cohesion, civic engagement and personal development.

Drawing on European evidence, the position paper highlighted that sports clubs are consistently identified as a preferred space for young people’s participation, while sport and physical activity provide opportunities to develop leadership skills, build relationships, volunteer and contribute to communities. It also highlighted sport’s contribution to young people’s physical and mental well-being, skills development and employment.

ENGSO Youth therefore called for Sport and Physical Activity to be included as a standalone Youth Goal, or clearly incorporated into an existing goal such as Youth Goal #5: Mental Health & Well-being. We will continue to follow this process and contribute to this process.
