Safe Hearts Plan
As the European Commission presents new measures to support the prevention of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), we are pleased to see that sport and physical activity are highlighted as key pillars of lifelong prevention.
The proposed Safe Hearts Plan, placing the promotion of regular physical activity and sport at its core, represents the first comprehensive EU strategy to address this major public health challenge. It outlines targeted actions to strengthen the prevention, early detection, and treatment of cardiovascular diseases across Europe.
ENGSO, with the support of its member organisations, advocates for sport as a powerful driver of health. We believe that mainstreaming sport must extend into the public health sector, where it can deliver significant preventive and therapeutic benefits for physical, mental, and social wellbeing of Europeans.
Physical activity is a fundamental human need and should therefore be recognised as a strategic public policy priority across the EU health agenda.
