Sport For All online seminar
On 24 March, the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS) of the Council of Europe held the second webinar of the “Sport For All” joint project between the Council of Europe and the European Union. Participants from media, academia, and the sports sector examined how athletes with disabilities are represented in coverage. The discussion highlighted progress since the 2012 London Paralympic Games, often seen as a turning point in shifting the focus toward athletic performance rather than disability.
At the same time, speakers noted that visibility remains largely tied to major events, with some journalists still hesitant to cover para sport. To address this, they called for greater inclusion of athletes with disabilities across all sporting contexts and for media narratives that better reflect both performance and personality, beyond a solely disability-focused lens.
