The European Broadcasting Union and European Athletics have published Raising the Bar, guidelines to prevent the sexualisation of women athletes in sports broadcasting, launched as the European Athletics Championships opened in Birmingham in August 2026. Shaped by athlete input, they encourage broadcasters to avoid low or tight camera angles on athletes’ bodies, limit unnecessary slow-motion replays, and use wider shots and graphics to show technique and performance. World Players Association welcomed the guidelines as a positive example of the improvements that can be achieved when athletes’ concerns are taken seriously.
