Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU
On 1 July 2025, Denmark assumed the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, following Poland and preceding Cyprus in the rotating role. For the next six months, Denmark will steer the Council’s legislative agenda, facilitate negotiations, and ensure continuity in advancing the EU’s long-term strategic objectives. In relation to sport, the Presidency has signalled a particular focus on strengthening democratic governance within international sport organisations, with an emphasis on transparency, accountability, and inclusive decision-making. This aligns with the EU’s broader commitment to good governance, integrity, and safeguarding in sport, and is expected to foster closer cooperation between EU institutions, Member States, and relevant stakeholders.
