Analysis of Existing Sport Programmes for Young Refugees in Europe

An overview of existing sport programmes for young refugees and the opportunity for introducing circus skills and additional mental health support.

This report aims to analyse existing sport programmes for refugee communities in France, Spain, Italy,The Netherlands and Greece. It aims to report on what organisations are currently doing, and identify the potential for circus arts and mental health support for the inclusion of children and young people with refugee status. This report will inform the Sports Without Borders Project which aims to maximise the physical and psychological impact of social inclusion programmes using an innovative combination of sports, circus arts, and mental health support.

This work focuses on young people (children aged 6-12; youth aged from 13 to 22) who have been displaced due to wars and are in urgent need of humanitarian support. The Project will develop a blueprint for a Social Circus Festival – bringing together traditional sport, circus skills and mental health support – that will be piloted in the aforementioned countries – France, Italy and Spain.
