Sports Without Borders Meeting with SAI Bergamo
On 26th January 2026, SPORTINDOOR and X23Sis presented the SportsWithoutBorders project and activities to staff members from different local organizations involved in managing SAI projects in the area of Bergamo. SAI – Sistema di Accoglienza e Integrazione (Reception and Integration System) is the Italian national system for reception and integration, providing integrated reception services to refugees, asylum seekers, unaccompanied foreign minors and foreigners entrusted to the social services on reaching majority age.
This was an occasion for partner organisations, not only to investigate potential interests for the project’s activities and promote participation to the pilot, but also to discuss the specific needs of displaced youth in the Bergamo area, explore effective approaches for engaging refugee communities, and address potential barriers that could hinder pilot participation, including logistical challenges, language difficulties and cultural considerations. The staff members showed enthusiasm for the project’s integrated approach combining sports, circus arts, and mental health support, recognising it as strongly aligned with their beneficiaries’ needs and the trauma-informed approach on which they base their activities.
